Alot of us are making a serious effort to avoid the toxic chemicals in commercial cleaning products these days. We are attempting to stay clear of parabens and other unhealthy chemicals, thereby, becoming more eco-friendly. It can be fun using “do it yourself” household cleansers, but our DIY concoctions don’t always satisfy all of our expectations.
For instance, baking soda by itself doesn’t clear a clogged drain, but when you add 3 cups of boiling water to it, this converts the baking soda to sodium carbonate, which is much safer than commercial drain products, which can harm eyes, nose and throat, as well as the environment. For example, cleaning with vinegar is inexpensive and versatile, but the smell of vinegar is strong and unpleasant. If you have a hard waiting a few days for the vinegar scent to dissipate, just add a few drops of lavender essential oil to one-quarter cup of white distilled vinegar. You can add other essential oils, but lavender is one of the best smelling essential oils that you can use.
White vinegar, combined with lavender, will still do everything from cutting grease to getting rid of dirt imbedded in wood and other materials. There are several home-based cleansers which are safer and just as powerful as the chemical-based cleaning products.
