Got a Sluggish Thyroid? Kelp can Help

Face mapping is thought to have originated in the sixth century B.C. It has been used by holistic healers to aid in medical diagnosis ever since. The Tao Institute of  Mind & Body Medicine in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey, are experts in face mapping. Dr. Jingduan Yang, M.D., from the Tao Institute, says that “facial features are directly connected to the body’s organs, and subtle changes can be early signs of weakness or imbalances.”

Watching closely for these signs can clue you in to minor issues so that you can treat them before they become bigger problems. It is important to be aware of these facial signs, which are really symptoms; revealers of  larger medical issues. Treatment of these problems can get you back on track and back to feeling  your very best again.

If you look in the mirror and you see sparse eyebrows, this may signify a thyroid problem. The outer third of the eyebrow tends to fall out when the thyroid is unable to produce sufficient levels of  energy and of the metabolism-regulating hormones known as “triiodothyronine” (T3) and “thyroxine” (T4), reports Lillian Bridges, author of the book, Face Reading in Chinese Medicine.  Left unread and untreated, this thyroid condition, which affects as many as 30 per cent of women, can lead to metabolic slowdown, fatigue and depression.

This problem can be helped by eating seaweed. More than 90 per cent of women with a sluggish thyroid are deficient in iodine, a mineral that helps synthesize T3 and T4.  But this deficiency can be reversed with a daily serving of  iodine-rich seaweed, known as kelp. Kelp comes in the form of seaweed salad and crunchy snack treats. You can also get kelp powder and spoon it onto salads and soups. It is extremely healthy for us.

Cellulite Problem? Kelp can Help

Whatever beauty cure you’re looking for; nature has a remedy for you! I make my own skin, hair and beauty products. It saves me alot of money, and, these home made creams, body lotions, hair rinses and body scrubs are all natural with absolutely no harsh or dangerous chemicals to worry about. You’ve heard of DIY?  Well, this is Abigail’s MIY – Make It Yourself .  The following recipe is one you can make to smooth cellulite.

Cellulite is certainly not attractive. I use this scrub on my thighs, as that is where my cellulite lies. Some women have cellulite on their arms. I am glad that I only have it on my legs. I do want to wear shorts this summer, so I use this ocean body scrub, along with shea butter to alleviate the ugly cottage cheese look.

So, for a quick way to tone your legs, arms and tummy, massage in this simple seaweed scrub. Seaweed and kelp contains essential minerals, like iron and zinc – that detoxify the skin, boost circulation and improve skin tone. That is why it’s a popular ingredient for tightening skin and ridding it of cellulite.

Here are the ingredients you will need to make your own ocean body scrub:

  • one tablespoon powdered kelp
  • two cups sea salt
  • one-third cup apple juice
  • two tablespoons honey
Mix all of the above ingredients in a bowl. Spoon it into a jar with a tight-fitting lid. In the shower, massage into clean, damp skin. Leave on for five minutes. Rinse with warm water and pat dry. This solution keeps for two days in the refrigerator.
Drinking plenty of fresh filtered water, exercise and saying away from fat-laden foods also help to keep cellulite away.
