The honeybush tea plant is indigenous to the Cape of South Africa exclusively. It belongs to the genus Cyclopia and it has properties similar to the rooibos teas, also from South Africa.

Honeybush tea has deep yellow flowers with trifoliate leaves. Some describe the flavor and scent of the honeybush as “hot apricot jam” and some have reported that it smells similar to a “dried fruit mix.”  Then, there are some tea lovers that claim honeybush has a floral, honey-like scent and taste, hence its’ namesake.

The tea is made from the leaves and flowers of the honeybush plant. The stems have no scent at all. It contains no caffeine, therefore, it can be consumed around the clock, if one desires. It is a joyful, heavenly tea to drink, simply because of its great, sweet flavor.

Not only does the honeybush taste great, but it delivers some wonderful health benefits;

  • Due to its lack of caffeine, it has a calming, sedating effect, good for relaxation and management of tension.
  • The antioxidants in the honeybush tea help to lower blood lipids.
  • There are phytoestrogens present which give relief for menopausal symptoms.
  • Pinitol is a plant substance in the honeybush2676663724_1f22bb8f40honeybush-tea-flower which acts as an expectorant, therefore, helping to control coughs of the common cold.

Once someone tries the honeybush teas, they always go back and get more. The taste is just so pleasant and the health benefits so substantial, that it is very hard to resist.
