Certain spices, and herbs for cooking may help prevent or treat diabetes. Recent research suggests that cinnamon helps block the formation of compounds that contribute to damage caused by diabetes and aging.
Another study found that mice who were fed turmeric (a spice used in curry), were less likely to develop type 2 diabetes. Sprinkle cinnamon on oatmeal and toast, and add turmeric or curry to soups and stir-fries regularly.

Gotu Kola
is a green leafy herb which grows in the swampy and marshy areas of India, Sri Lanka and parts of South Africa. In recent times, it has been reported that elephants feed almost exclusively on the gotu kola leaves. These great animals are known for their longevity and for their keen memories!
Gotu kola is wonderful because it relaxes the mind as it stimulates the synapses of the nervous system at the same time. It also lowers our stress hormone levels, bringing health and deleting the unhealthy chemical reactions which accompany stress.

Over indulgence in gotu kola on a daily, regular basis can cause heart palpitations, headaches and increase the effects of sedative or barbituate pain killers. Always stop taking this herb and call your doctor immediately should you have any of the above-mentioned side effects. Taking herbs on top of prescription medications in not ever safe. As always, do not take this herb in any form if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
